Smartwater is a brand of purified water that uses vapor distillation, the process of filtration that is used in nature. The water is first heated to remove impurities and minerals, then as the water cools the water molecules are separated from other molecules, giving pure water. Smartwater has the addition of the following electrolytes: potassium, calcium and magnesium, which not only help with dehydration, but also give the water a great taste. Smartwater doesn't contain sodium, fluoride or any sweeteners or flavors. The contaminants are removed from the water through two different processes. The first process uses ultraviolet light to destroy any potentially harmful microorganisms. The second process, called ozonation, involves pumping ozone gas through the water to remove any remaining impurities or contaminants. What is left after vapor distillation and ozonation is water that tastes fresh, crisp and cool without the bitterness that often comes from other water brands.
