The original Poland Spring was actually located in the American state of Maine, and the brand has been around for quite some time. The legends of the beneficial effects associated with the spring's water are quite a bit older than the brand itself, going back to the legend of Joseph Ricker waking from his deathbed in 1793 as a result of drinking water from the spring. Visitors started pouring in to get a view of the incredible healing powers of the water, and the brand was officially launched in 1845 to meet the demands of their clientele. Today, there are seven new springs along with the original Poland Spring, for a total of eight useful springs. Each spring is located in the state of Maine, so they all produce alpine spring water of the same quality. The water is bottled in one of three separate bottling facilities, all of which are also located in Maine.
