Schweppes is an extremely popular water brand that was originally founded in 1783. Amateur scientist Jacob Schweppe of Sweden was fascinated by the newly-discovered process of carbonation. He patented his own carbonation process and began to create his own type of mineral water which he called "Lightning in a Bottle". Schweppes Original Sparkling Seltzer Water is perhaps the most popular brand of carbonated water in the United States. It is frequently used as part of cocktail recipes and is the preferred drink to use in a martini or a gin and tonic. Schweppes ginger ale is one of the dominant ginger ale brands on the planet. They also make club soda and tonic water. Their beverages are carried in grocery stores and restaurants all over the world. At one time, Schweppes owned Cadbury, makers of Cadbury creme eggs. The Schweppes brand is currently owned by the Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
